Frida Kahlo and the 20th Century Mexican Art in Bologna

From Saturday, November 19, 2016 until March 26, 2017, at the Palazzo Albergati of Bologna, you can take a journey through portraits, self-portraits and works of Frida Kahlo and the Mexican Art of the twentieth century!

Thanks to the Gelman Collection are on display in addition to the works of the great Mexican painter and her great love Diego Rivera also works by Rufino Tamayo, María Izquierdo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Ángel Zárraga less known but of great revelation.


Frida and Diego are the protagonists of the exhibition; through their works and their testimonies (in the exhibition are also exposed the beautiful photographs that are part of the collection as well as the clothes, the jewelry, the diaries and much more), it tells a country, Mexico, an artistic movement, the story of two artists and at the same time the passionate history, overwhelming and destructive between two great personalities.

As Frida wrote in her diaries:
“There have been two great accidents in my life. One was the trolley, and the other was Diego. Diego was by far the worst.”
